Three answers to questions about the use of precision castings
Release date:
Nov 14,2025
Abstract
1. Can precision castings be thin-walled?
Precision castings are one type of casting where the molded shell is preheated at high temperatures; if poured slowly, they can produce thin-walled components. Therefore, the answer to this question is yes—unless it involves ferrous metals, in which case it can be achieved through die casting.
2. Can water-soluble cores be used in precision casting?
For cast products, water-soluble cores can be used in the mold core, but there are specific requirements. Generally speaking, if the casting structure is not suitable for easy demolding, a water-soluble core can be employed in the mold core to ensure smooth ejection of the part.
3. Is pickling necessary during the precision casting production process?
In this context, from a professional standpoint, it’s essential to assess the actual situation. If the casting surface has dirt or oxide scale, acid pickling will be necessary to remove these before proceeding with passivation or other processes. However, if no such contamination is present, it’s not required. Therefore, this question is difficult to answer, as it ultimately depends on the specific circumstances.
