Abstract

Generally, cast parts are coarser compared to precision-cast components and fall within the realm of forging.

Generally, castings are coarser compared to precision-cast parts and fall within the realm of forging processes. In general casting, molten metal is rapidly injected into a mold at high pressure and at an accelerated rate. Under this pressure, the metal solidifies, though it typically still requires further post-processing—such as machining or finishing—to become fully ready for use. However, due to the complex interplay of multiple materials and external forces during solidification, cast components often experience deformation. General casting is therefore best suited for parts where strict geometric tolerances and high-performance requirements are not critical for machinery applications.

Precision casting and conventional casting are two distinct casting methods, with the main differences lying in dimensional accuracy, surface finish, and cost—though precision casting generally meets higher standards, resulting in castings with superior performance. Therefore, when purchasing castings, consumers can choose based on their budget and specific needs.
